Routing Games

چکیده

This chapter studies the inefficiency of equilibria in noncooperative routing games, in which selfinterested players route traffic through a congested network. Our goals are threefold: to introduce the most important models and examples of routing games; to survey optimal bounds on the price of anarchy in these models; and to develop proof techniques that are useful for bounding the inefficiency of equilibria in a range of applications.

Network Load Games

We study network load games, a class of routing games in networks which generalize selfish routing games on networks consisting of parallel links. In these games, each user aims to route some traffic from a source to a destination so that the maximum load she experiences in the links of the network she occupies is minimum given the routing decisions of other users. We present results related to...

"Beat-Your-Rival" Routing Games

In the traditional setting of routing games, the standard assumption is that selfish agents are unconcerned with the performance of their competitors in the network. We propose an extension to this setting by modeling agents to consider a combination of their own performance as well as that of their rivals. Per agent, we parameterize this trade-off, thereby allowing agents to be partially selfi...

Worst-Case Coalitions in Routing Games

We investigate a routing game that allows for the creation of coalitions, within the framework of cooperative game theory. Specifically, we describe the cost of each coalition as its maximin value. This represents the performance that the coalition can guarantee itself, under any (including worst) conditions. We then investigate fundamental solution concepts of the considered cooperative game, ...

Efficient graph topologies in network routing games

A topology is efficient for network games if, for any game over it, every Nash equilibrium is socially optimal. It is well known that many topologies are not efficient for network games. We characterize efficient topologies in network games with a finite set of players, each wishing to transmit an atomic unit of unsplittable flow. We distinguish between two classes of atomic network routing gam...

Two-terminal routing games with unknown active players

We analyze 2-terminal routing games with linear cost functions and with unknown number of active players. We deal with both splittable and unsplittable models. We prove the existence and uniqueness of a symmetric safety-level equilibrium in such games and show that in many cases every player benefits from the common ignorance about the number of players. Furthermore, we prove new theorems on ex...
